Recently, the project "Support for the Ministry of Justice and Justice Sector Reform" was launched, funded by the European Union and implemented by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). At the documentation stage, OECD experts are meeting with national authorities playing a significant role in the extensive process of justice transformation in our country.
On Thursday, February 1, 2024, project representatives - Daniel Quadbeck, Chloe Lelievre, Francesco Alfonso, Martyna Wanat, Ana Skrjabina, and Rodica Secrieru - met with the acting Director of the National Institute of Justice, Ecaterina Popa. Discussions were also attended by Olga Marandici, advisor to the Director of INJ, head of the International Relations Unit, and Ion Bocan, head of the Continuous Training Unit.
During the meeting, the dialogue focused on the functioning and importance of the National Institute of Justice in strengthening an efficient and transparent judicial system in line with the conditions for EU accession. In this regard, Ecaterina Popa discussed the judicial training of NIJ beneficiaries, training approaches, and the ongoing need for further consolidation of initial and continuous training. Additionally, the utility of a comprehensive study addressing the role of NIJ graduates employed in the judicial system was emphasized.
Bilateral discussions also covered topics related to the performance and capacity of the judicial system, the independence of the justice system, the careers of judges and trust in the justice system, among others.
The OECD project "Support for the Ministry of Justice and Justice Sector Reform in the Republic of Moldova," with a 36-month implementation duration, comprises two essential components: 1. a comprehensive analysis of justice in the Republic of Moldova and the strengthening of the capacities of the Ministry of Justice and other actors in the system; 2. an evaluation of the Strategy for ensuring the independence and integrity of the justice sector for the years 2022-2025.
