Tuesday, January 23, 2024, took place the Steering Committee meeting for monitoring the implementation of the Council of Europe Action Plan (PA) for the Republic of Moldova 2021-2024, in which participated CoE experts and representatives of the beneficiary national authorities.
The meeting served as an opportunity to present the level of achievement of the AP and to exchange views on the impact of completed and ongoing projects. The event also aimed to address the future priorities of the AP, including in the context the start of negotiations for the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union.
Present at the event, the ad interim Director of the NIJ, Ecaterina Popa, made a review of the achievements and actions within the competence of the National Institute of Justice on the dimensions of initial training, continuous training, training of trainers and e-learning. Thus, were organized training sessions and awareness-raising activities that regard non-discrimination, protection of human rights, children's rights, gender equality and combating violence against women, etc.
In the afternoon, the meeting of the Local Steering Committee of the programme initiated by the European Union and the Council of Europe – the Partnership for Good Governance (PGG), phase III (2023-2027), was also held. The event aimed to summarize the results of the implementation of specific country and regional projects in the Republic of Moldova since the beginning of the PGG III.
In this context, the ad interim Director of the National Institute of Justice, presented, in particular, the actions carried out under the project „Women's access to justice: implementation of Council of Europe standards on gender equality and violence against women”. She also stressed the importance of the regional approach to women's access to justice.
Also, at the meeting were discussed progress, challenges and actions to be taken with the support of projects „Women's access to justice: implementing Council of Europe’s gender equality and violence against women standards”, „Combating discrimination, hate speech and hate crimes in the Republic of Moldova”, „Support to further modernization of court management in the Republic of Moldova”, „Promoting equality and non-discrimination: towards more resilient and inclusive societies”.
