During the period June 25-29, the trainees of the National Institute of Justice, Natalia Russu and Virginia Baltag, candidates to the position of judge, attended the 15th edition of the summer school “Ethics and deontology”, organized by the National Institute of Magistracy of Romania.
The event, held in Sovata, is part of the European Judicial Training Network (EJTN) Catalog for 2018 and brought together Romanian magistrates and trainees as well as magistrates from other EU Member States. The main objectives of the activity were to promote the independence and integrity of judges and prosecutors, to facilitate the exchange of visions and good practices among the participants.
Under the guidance of the National Institute of Magistracy’s trainers, the summer school’s program included practical exercises and discussions on the importance of the active role of the judge in the civil process, the independence and impartiality of judges and prosecutors, the virtues and qualities of a good magistrate, the exercise of the function in bad faith or serious negligence, incompatibilities and interdictions regarding judges and prosecutors etc.
It is worth mentioning that the National Institute of Justice trainees participate for the first time in a training activity conducted by the National Institute of Magistracy through the European Judicial Training Network, given the fact that one of the NIJ strategic objectives is the increase of its beneficiaries’ involvement in training activities carried out within the EJTN.
