In the afternoon of today, April 24, 2024, the National Institute of Justice was visited by students and masters of the law faculty of the State University of Moldova, who are also members of the European Law Students’ Association (ELSA).
The young people were welcomed by the acting director of the NIJ, Adrian Cerbu, who initiated discussions on the activity of the Institute on the four dimensions: initial training, continuous training, training of trainers and e-Learning.
The ad Interim Director encouraged them to participate in the competition for admission to the initial training courses to become judges and prosecutors. The students were curious to learn about recent legislative amendments to the Law on the National Institute of Justice, especially at the admission stage, about different training of the candidates to the positions of judge and prosecutor, about the employment rate of NIJ graduates by the Superior Council of Magistracy and the Superior Council of Prosecutors, etc.
Also ELSA members learned about the conditions and stages of the NIJ admission, as well as about the initial training course within the Institute from promotional materials and videos. The young people had the opportunity to interact with the graduates of the National Institute of Justice – Livia Mitrofan, Interim President of the Chisinau Court, Octavian Bivol, prosecutor. Chisinau Prosecutor's Ofice, Olga Marandici and Tatiana Bruma, candidates to the position of judge and Doina-Cezara Galan, candidate to the position of prosecutor, who have shared their own experience regarding the training period at NIJ and their career path.
Finally, the visitors went to the most representative study rooms inside the Institute: the computer classroom and the mock trial room.
The National Institute of Justice is the only judicial training institution in the country that trains future judges and prosecutors. The initial training lasts 18 months and is carried out in three semesters: first semester – training of professional skills specific to the criminal investigation phase (candidates to the position of prosecutor)/training of professional skills when examining civil cases (candidates to the position of judge); semester II – training of professional skills on pretrial phase/training of professional skills in the examination of criminal cases based on mock trials on concrete categories of criminal cases; semester III – internship in courts, prosecutor's offices and criminal investigating bodies. During this period, the trainees have a monthly scholarship in the amount of an average salary in economy.
